What is a sober coach?
A sober coach will give you guidance, inspiration, and encouragement to help you reduce or quit drinking. It’s personalised, one-to-one support from someone who has been there.
Sober coaches all have different approaches, prices and levels of support. If you’re looking for a sobriety coach to help you quit drinking, some of the things to think about are:
Does their approach resonate with me?
Do I like them and have good chemistry with them? (Booking a discovery call is the best way to decide this).
Do they have training and credentials?
Have they been sober for a few years?
Do they have testimonials from previous clients?
How much do they charge and does that fit my budget?
Working with me as your sober coach
My approach is based on holding a gentle, non-judgemental space for you to reflect on the reasons you are drinking and what positive beliefs you have about alcohol. I encourage you to have a spirit of self-compassion and curiosity.
I don’t believe that perfectionism and willpower are helpful and I don’t use terms like ‘relapse.’ Instead, I believe that every time you drink is an opportunity to learn. After you’ve had a drink, I encourage you to:
Bring yourself self-compassion and forgiveness. You might say: how human of me. How understandable. I’m learning something new and that takes time.
Reflect on how you were feeling and what lead you to drink. Were you anxious, stressed or tired?
Think about what you hoped alcohol would do for you. Did you hope it would make you feel more relaxed, confident and less anxious? Did it do that?
Consider what you really needed at the time. Did you need to say no to the party and go to bed instead? Did you need a hug from a loved one? Did you need to go for a walk?
Make a plan for next time the urge to drink comes up in that situation. How can you support yourself to make a different choice?
All my sober coaching support is delivered online with Zoom or phone call sessions and support in between through email and WhatsApp.
If you’re local to Lewes, East Sussex in the UK, we could meet in person. Email me at hello@ellie-nova.com to find out more.
How much does a sober coach cost?
Again - every sober coach is different! You’ll find some that charge more than me and some that charge less. The most important thing is finding someone who you trust and who is the right fit for you.
My prices start at £350 for a month of support. After that, you can book one-off sessions with me for £60 each. I also run a monthly women’s support circle online which is only £15 a month and your first circle is free.
